Description:

All over the world, queen bees are marked with the same color of opaliths in a given year. 5 colors are used alternately, because queen bees usually live up to 5 years. Marking a queen bee makes it easier to identify her age and find her in a colony (e.g. to exchange or check if a queen is in the hive).

Queen bees live for a maximum of 5 years and therefore you can find opalites in five colors: white, yellow, red, green and blue. Each of these colors is assigned to a specific year, e.g. in years ending with the number 1 and 6, mothers are marked in white, in years ending with the number 2 and 7 in yellow, etc.
