New in the EU for the control of varroa.
Composition:
One 750g solution bottle contains:
Active ingredient: Oxalic acid dihydrate, 35.0g (equivalent to 25.0g of oxalic acid)
One 125g powder sachet contains:
Excipients: Sucrose, Anise oil, Eucalyptus oil.
1 ml of mixed hive suspension contains:
Active ingredient: Oxalic acid dihydrate, 39.4 g (equivalent to 28.1 g of oxalic acid)
Excipients: A list of all excipients is provided in section 6.1 of the safety data sheet.
Pharmaceutical form:
Powder and solution for preparing a hive suspension for honeybees.
Indications:
Treatment of varroa destructor in honeybee (Apis mellifera) colonies without brood.
Contraindications:
None.
Dosage and route of application:
In-hive application.
Dose:
The finished hive suspension should be applied once to the bees in the interframe alleys (maximum dose: 5-6 ml per alley). The total amount of product given to a bee colony should not exceed 54 ml. Therefore, if necessary, the dose for one alley should be reduced to avoid exceeding the maximum total amount of product for one colony (calculation: maximum dose per colony / number of interframe alleys with bees = x.x ml/alley). The use of Oxybee according to the above dosing schedule applies only to hives with vertical frames accessible from above, as no studies have been conducted on the treatment of bees in other hive types.
Recommendations for proper use:
The product should be applied using an appropriate graduated dispenser (e.g., automatic pipette, disposable syringe) to bees in the inter-frame alleys. The prepared suspension should be applied to the bees in the inter-frame alleys. Measure the dose carefully and avoid overdosing. The suspension should be warmed (30-35°C) during use. The ambient temperature should be at least 3°C during treatment. Only one treatment should be applied to each hive. If the prepared suspension has been stored, shake the bottle well before use.
Preparation of the final hive suspension:
Before use, the contents of the sachet(s) of flavoured sucrose powder should be added to the bottle containing the hive suspension solution, as described below.
- Place the bottle containing the oxalic acid dihydrate solution in a container of warm water (30°C -35°C).
- Using scissors, open the sachet(s) of sucrose powder.
- Preparation of the final 444 ml hive suspension: Add the contents of one sachet to a bottle containing 375 g of oxalic acid dihydrate solution.
- Preparation of the final 888 ml hive suspension: Add the contents of two sachets to a bottle containing 750 g of oxalic acid dihydrate solution.
- Add the entire contents of the sachet(s) to the solution bottle.
- Close the bottle tightly and shake until the sucrose is completely dissolved. The finished hive suspension should be colorless and clear or slightly turbid.
Interactions with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction:
Unknown. Avoid concurrent use with other acaricidal products due to the possibility of increased toxic effects on bees.
Withdrawal period:
Honey: zero days. Do not use during the honey flow period.
Special warnings:
Special warnings for each target animal species: Oxybee should only be used once on colonies without brood. This veterinary medicinal product should be used as part of an integrated varroa control program and the reduction of mite infestation should be regularly monitored. Where possible, this veterinary medicinal product should be used alternately with another authorized varroacidal product with a different mode of action to reduce the potential for resistance development in Varroa mites.
Shelf life:
The product as packaged for sale: 2 years.
Shelf life after mixing according to directions: 1 year.
Special storage precautions:
Keep the bottle and sachet in the outer carton to protect from light.
Ready-to-use hive suspension (after mixing): Store in a refrigerator (2°C – 8°C).
